If you’re like me, there are storms frequently popping up on the radar and some are worse than others.  In some instances, weather teams are able to give people enough notice to prepare for severe weather.

What are some steps we can take to prepare our homes?

  • Fill your bathtubs with water
  • Stock up on batteries, flashlights, and candles
  • Be sure you have a first aid kit and that it’s fully stocked
  • Stock up on foods that don’t need to be cooked or refrigerated.
  • If you have the budget, then purchase a generator so you have nothing to worry about if you lose power for several days.
  • If you have an alternative heating method that does not rely on electricity, then stock up on fuel necessary to keep it going for several days.
  • Put plastic over old and leaky windows.
  • Purchase sand or salt to keep paths and porches safe.

These are just some of the steps you can take to prepare your home for severe weather.  Take note of all advice given by weather forecasters, as well.  Also make note of any shelters that will be opening just in case your home is not safe to stay in during the storm.
