Why Do Homes Need Gutters?

Gutters serve a major role in the home’s construction in that they divert rainwater from attacking:

  • eaves
  • foundation
  • landscaping
  • soffit
  • walkways

Water rolls down the material the roof is constructed from, and directly into the gutter system.  Gutters run along the edge of the roofline, otherwise known as the fascia.  Water is channeled underground once it leaves the roof through the downspout.

Seems pretty simple, right?  There are some homeowners who prefer not to install gutters because they feel they ruin the aesthetic appeal of the home’s exterior, but they truly are a beneficial installation.  Beyond the basic maintenance from season to season, they’re pretty much worry-free.

Do you live in a small space, but need more room?  Small space living is not only common in large cities, but residents are constantly downsizing their living spaces in order to accommodate the financial crises.  Here are some tips:

  • Double up inside your kitchen cabinets by hanging mugs and stemware from hooks and wine racks.
  • Nest sliding utensil holders inside kitchen and bathroom drawers.
  • Add under the bed rolling storage in all the bedrooms.
  • Hang additional cabinetry above your toilet in all the bathrooms.
  • Change the coffee table out for a wooden trunk, or add ottomans that open up for additional storage.

Small spaces do not mean that you necessarily have to live with sparse furnishings and minimalist designs.  While those options may be optimal for some; that does not necessarily work for others.  Be creative and have fun!
