Whatever you want to call it, it is still a home improvement.

With the changing of the seasons, it is easy to improve the exterior of your home’s appearance with some simple additions of plants, pumpkins, and other “harvest” or Halloween themed decorations.  If you prefer not to celebrate Halloween, but you do celebrate the harvest, consider the following:

• potted mums on stairs, on decks, and flanking doorways

• small pumpkins in an arrangement or a line up your stairs

• larger pumpkins flanking your home’s entrance

• Indian corn, gourds, and faux foliage arranged in wreaths or other arrangements

These additions are very simple, and will not break the bank.  It’s surprising how a few simple items placed in just the right spot boosts the appearance of the exterior of your home in such a positive way.  Take it a bit further by adding fall themed wind chimes, a bail of hay, or some lanterns.  The possibilities are many!

• purchase several varieties of colors of mums and repot them in matching pots or urns

• pick up pumpkins in various sizes, at least one to place next to each potted plant (or more)

• gourds and small pumpkins in bowls dress up patio tables and picnic tables beautifully

• add bails of hay to flank your driveway or walkway, along with some more pumpkins

• hang wreaths made from “fall” elements to hang on doors, trees, or gazebos

• fill a wagon or wheel barrel full of hay, pumpkins, gourds, and Indian corn, and then park it next to your porch

As you can see, there are a lot of things that can be done around your yard and on your porch (or deck) to improve your curb appeal.  You may already be growing pumpkins and mums in your gardens and, if so, you’re one step ahead in this task.  Have some fun, be creative, and enjoy the changing of the seasons with your home improvement projects!
